Situated on the the Atlantic Coast running north from the Gironne estuary and the vineyards of Bordeaux to the Vendee and inland towards the Massif Central lies the Region of Poitou Charentes.
Along with the Vendee the coastal area enjoys one of the sunniest climates in France with 2250 to 2500 hours of sunshine a year and as such makes this area especially attractive to visiter from early spring to the late autumn.
With 450 kilometers of coastline which have many fine sandy beaches and include the islands of Aix, Oleron and Re, together with the ports of La Rochelle and Rochefort and the abundance of fresh sea food making this region an ideal holiday destination.
Inland from the  Marais Poitevin and the Poitou fens, the gently rolling hills of the Charente, the valley of Vienne, the vineyards of Cognac the landscape is varied and interesting.
