About the Langudoc-Roussillon.
Map of Languedoc-Roussillon Region of France
Area: 27376 Km˛

Population: (Ranked 10th) 2,520000 (2006)
Density: 92 Km˛

Capital: Montpellier.

The Languedoc-Roussillon region borders the Mediterranean coast with 180kms of sandy beaches from the Camargue to the Spanish border, and then west it borders Spain as far as Andorra. The region extends north along the Midi-Pyrenees region as far as Auvergne, the north and east border the Rhone-Alpes to the provence.
Languedoc is the largest wine producing area in Europe with 740,300 acres of vineyards which is 3x more than Bordeaux.

The Coastal plain, much of which is protected includes the marshes of the Camargue,an un-spoilt wilderness of great beauty where traditions and rural life remain more or less unchanged. Contrast this with the vast National park of Cevennes, the lakes and mountains of Lozere and the limestone gorges of the Tarn and you have an area of great variety and interest
