There is 600
km of coastline which varies from long sandy beaches, Pebbled Coves to Dramatic
Cliffs.
Around the cape la Hague pennisular are some of the strongest tidal
flows in the world. and between the port of Grandville and the channel island of
Jersey are a cluster of low lying but picturesque islands. The famous
island of Mont St Michel is just off the coast in the corner that adjoins
Brittany, here again the tidal streams are so fierce that it is said to outrun a
horse. The sea food in this region is some of the finest in France.
On the
other side of the cherberg Penisular the charming seaside village of Honfleur
can be found. Its picturesque port is a favorite with visiting yachtsmen and
there are some great waterside resteraunts. The D-Day landing beach of Juno
where the Canadians landed is a tourest attraction.
The Large Sea Port of
Cherbourg has one of the largest hourbours on the french north coast, its has a
large naval base, a ferry port and large marina. Around the inner harbour are
some excellant harbourside bars cafes and resteraunts. The stricking granite
built properties give the town a solid robust feel and one can easily see why
Nepoleon use Cherbourg as his fortress against the English.
Inland there
are magnificent forests, relaxed agricultural land with flowing streams and apple
orchards. The famous Calvados brandy is one of the major exports and the
Camembert cheese was first produced in the village of the same name in the
department of Orne.
The town of Bayer is one of the most visited towns inthe
area due to the Tapesty which celebrates the Normand conquest of Britain in 1066
by William the Conquerer.
