At the very
heart of France in the Central Massif
A Plateau of
ancient hardened lava and granite with forested volcanic peaks and deep river
gorges, an area of outstanding natural beauty. Puy de Dome (1,465m) an extinct
volcano provide fantastic views of the Puy Mountain chain and the plains
below.
The outdoor activities covers virtually every thing including; Hiking,
biking, golf, watersports like sailing, canoeing, swimming,fishing and rafting.
Hang gliding ,skiing, painting, infact this truly is a paradise for lovers of
the outdoors
The Puy de Sancy is the highest of the peaks in the Mont Dore
with 2 cable cars taking walkers to the top in summer and skiiers in winter,
there is a good restaurant there with spectacular views.
The area is
famous also for its cheeses which include; Salers, Cantal and St.Nectaires as
well as the bleu d'Auvergne and Fourme d'Ambert.
Climate. long
warm summers, though thunderstones can often appear from nowhere and temperature
can reach well into the 30's.
The winters can be wet with snow on the
mountains often lasting till the end of April.
